First seeds planted in the new veg bed to supply the shop.

After a productive bank holiday weekend spent working on the veg garden at Newhouse Farm, the first seeds are in the ground!

Thank you to our friends from the village – Laura, Alyson and Gordon (who run the Tywardreath Gardening Club) who turned up this Sunday to help us for a couple of hours.  As we were about to get to work on the veg plot the rain started so we moved into the greenhouse to start clearing it for growing on seedlings, it didn’t take long with plenty of hands making it easier.  When we had enough of the rain we went in the farmhouse for a coffee and chat to share ideas about how our plot could supply the village shop with bags of freshly picked salad leaves and the unusual varieties we want to grow.

Laura had kindly helped us earlier in the week by writing a planting plan and crop rotation for our large plot, having worked at Heligan Garden for many years and now for Buglife, she has lots of useful experience to pass on to us about veg gardening and wildlife.  Laura also runs her own community activity in the village, she hires out cameras to community groups and local people to capture videos of the wildlife living in their gardens.  On her Facebook page you can see footage from the bird boxes she has installed over the Winter at Newhouse Farm.
